  with these new disasters going on around the world, i would imagine that the jw's are going ape shit with the thought of death and destruction right around the corner.

  i was smart enough to leave this cult after 1975 came and went with a whimper.

  i was in my teens at the time and i vividly remember to this day the excitement all the witlesses had with the knowledge that '75 was going to be the year of armageddon!!!

  i did not see a newbs thread to introduce myself, so my apologies if i'm in the wrong place.

  i was a 3rd generation born in witness for 30 years until i was disfellowshipped back in 2007 for making a mistake.

  my entire life up until that point was based on and circled around the society, and even though at first i really enjoyed my freedom (i still do), the fact is that i'm still struggling with cognitive dissonance, resentment, and loneliness.. i miss my family all the time.

  I have tried to go back to the organization several times. The problem is that when you read as much as I do, you invariably come across things that make you THINK, and then you see the the organization for what it really is.
  

  I highly suggest you read Crisis of Conscience by Raymond Franz, a former member of the Governing Body (It's available free in pdf). You'll see that, no matter how bad things are as you see them now, they're always worse when you look more closely.

  Don't bother returning to the organization, they don't deserve someone as honest as you.
  

  Unfortunately he has been a little possessive and has caused me to lose some of the friends I did make when I left.
  

  Is he also Hispanic? They're naturally inclined towards that.

  But something is still missing. I don't even feel like I can have a personal connection with god because if Jehovah wants "his people" to behave the way they do, then I don't want to know or love Jehovah. In fact, I think he's a bit of an asshole.
  

  That "missing" thing is the realization that there's no such thing as such a god.

  recently attended a special assembly day.. guest speaker was thomas chicky, a member of the us branch committee and the head of the us ldc (which has replaced the rbcs).. the last talk of the day is scheduled for an hour.

  it was the usual boring mumbo-jumbo.

  he appeared to have blasted through his hour-long outline in just about 45 minutes, so he "treated" us to informal comments on recent developments.. he commented on the new wt complex in fishkill ny.. then he dropped the bomb (well, to anyone with ears and at least 2 functioning synapses).. the following is not a word for quote, but presents the gist of his comments:.

  wolves use their "loyalty" questions to trap others - "do you believe we're living in the last days/this is god's organization/faithful slave?

  " - yet resolutely avoid discussing topics which put their org in a bad light, my "loyalty" question to them would be - "do you accept literature truth over bible truth?

  " they will either run or be forced to ask for examples of alleged differences.any other suggestions for "loyalty" questions?.

  I fully believe we are living in the last days. Can't wait until all is fixed.
  

  Whatever happens in the future, no matter how bad it is, will not be like the false prophecies your religion teaches. You will die from old age (unless you're old already) without seeing:

  • The UN declare "Peace and Security!"
  • The UN declare war on "Babylon the Great".
  • The Jehovah's Witnesses spared persecution until after all other religions are destroyed.

  Of course, all of the above are subject to eternal revision. You'll be waiting forever.

  an easy way to stump the delusional jws at your door is come to the door with sunglasses on holding a sign with the words in the above title, and not say a word.

  the reaction will be priceless.... hopefully it will wake up those that still have some use of their thinking abilities..

  i figured i'd shut the site down for a couple of hours to encourage everyone to do their xmas shopping.

  the error message was a subtle hint, that's what "500 error" means ... go shopping.. whatever rumours you hear, it definitely wasn't that someone deployed a quick update before going on a 1.5 hour car ride to pick someone up and didn't think that the page they tested, to check it was all working after the update, happened to be cached.

  no siree bob, not that, na hah.. anyway, you're welcome for the extra chance to, erm, shop..
